Maurgarite Smith is a certified teacher in the speciality of health, nutrition and phsyical education. She has been teaching for 25 years, 10 of these years have been at Hurst High School.

Dr. Jane Harris is an experience child psychologist. She oversees the school-based counseling and support teams throughout the district. Dr. Harris is a recognized trainer and practitioner of youth counseling services.

The Hurst High School Social and Emotional Health collaborative helps students learn more about healh and wellness concepts. The collaborative also seeks to strengthen team-building and team learning by providing Authentic learning experiences. The core learning goals are as follows:
Educate – students, staff and family explore the physical and emotional indicators of unhealthy relationships through educational videos, online discussions, and independent research.
Disarm - students and staff collaborate to develop strategies for avoiding or coping with potentially abusive relationships.
Disseminate - provide opportunities for students and staff to share their observations and final presentations through student blog portalsor informational wikis. Family can also find informational resources or other helpful links in the family portal.

Our mission is to help students identify physical and emotional indicators of unhealthy relationships and identify mitigating strategies. In addition, we will help students identify how they can advocate for healthier relationships for themselves and others.
